Utica Comets Unveil Logo
The Peoria Rivermen have found a new home in Utica, NY as the club officially unveiled their new logo. Containing the same shades of Green and Blue as their parent club (the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks), the logo features very little of a “space” theme which one would associate with the “Comets” nickname.
The logo itself is.. well, pretty bland and safe in regards to design. The Comets had a real chance to do something dynamic, but stuck with a very safe sheild and comet-puck. “Utica” seems like an afterthought and appears to be thrown in the upper left of the shield, while the font choice is pretty lackluster and really is missing the energy “Comets” should have. The only real space connection comes from the Comet-Puck and half-tone stars (which seem completely out of place compared to the flatness of the rest of the logo.
The secondary logo will be the parent club’s “stick-in-rink” logo which will be worn on the shoulders of the jerseys.
The Comets will play at the Utica Memorial Auditorium beginning in the 2013-14 season.
